You are standing in a park along the river. You look around and see it’s packed with amazing people. You raise a can to your lips and taste the cold PBR. You realize your ears are being filled with music that makes you want to dance. Where are you? Mo Pop Festival!
For the second year in a row the festival takes place at West Riverfront Park in Detroit. The dates are July 23th & 24th. Mo Pop is a great mix of music, Detroit artists, Detroit food, and the vibe that Detroit offers. Basically, the festival kick ass!
The lineup so far includes…..G-Eazy, M83, Haim, The Head and the Heart, Matt and Kim, Glass Animals, Father John Misty, Borns, Mac Demarco, Shakey Graves, Fidlar, Raury, Nothing but Thieves, Twin Peaks, Banners, The Strumbellas, Lewis Del Mar, Panama Wedding, Coast Modern, Alex G, Quilt, Tunde Olaniran, and The Greeting Committee. There will be at least a few more artists added. The lists of artists offers something for everyone.
I’m really excited to see Matt and Kim again. They bring it each and every time they hit Detroit. Heck, they bring it each and every time the play anywhere!
The Head and the Heart is an indie folk band that I just get. The breeze coming off the river will be a nice companion to their sound.
Tunde Olaniran defies description. The Flint Michigan native is all over the map. His songs are catchy, his style is eclectic, and his shows always leave the crowd smiling. He will fit right in at Mo Pop. Even if you can’t go, check out his music. You will not be disappointed.
This will be the 3rd year I attend Mo Pop. The festival showcases Detroit in the best possible way. The skyline, the river, and the people. If you have ever wondered what Detroit is like, buy a ticket to Mo Pop and you will get a crash course.
When the music ends each night, you will still have time to check out the rest of the city. If you want to know where to go, just ask Detroit Donny. Hey, that’s me!
I will keep y’all updated on Mo Pop Festival as more information is released. For now enjoy their official Spotify playlist of the lineup.
Peace and love!
