Fun & Free Ways for Kids to Make Music This Tuesday!

Make Music Chattanooga is a live, free musical celebration this Tuesday, June 21st, the longest day of the year, with concerts on streets, sidewalks, and parks across the city.

Listed are activities perfect for kids and performances by kids to get the little ones in your life motivated to make music!

Instrument Petting Zoo – Hosted by Chattanooga Symphony & Opera and Chattanooga Girls Rock
The Granfalloon – 400 East Main Street
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

CSO will introduce you to and let you play classical instruments and CGR will have the rock instruments on hand. Here you can get back to the roots of music and still rock.

A performance by their Children’s Choir and Bucket Band.

Harmonica Workshop/Harmonica Play-Along  
LoLa Stage at Chattanooga Public Library – 1001 Broad St.
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Learn how to play the harmonica simultaneously from a teacher in Burlington. Then both groups in both cities will perform harmonica songs together. This is open to all ages and skills-levels. Horner harmonicas will be provided for free. Jump in on this group session and see how you like it.

Butch Ross with the Vermont Ukulele Orchestra – Ukulele Lesson and Jam
LoLa Stage at Chattanooga Public Library – 1001 Broad St.
2:30 pm – 3:15 pm

This will be followed by a community ukulele lesson taught by members of the V.U.S.. After the short simple lesson we’ll attempt a live ukulele jam with students and musicians in both cities. Limited amount of ukes will be available in both locations. Bring your instrument or just come by and enjoy the show.

Making your own Musical Instrument – Hosted by The Chattery
Bessie Smith Cultural Center – 200 M.L. King Blvd.
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Adults and kids will have the opportunity to make a musical instrument, learn how to play it and the history behind it. The Chattery promotes learning in the community, so this will be a fun activity with something to learn.

Benjamin Brown
Piano Park – 215 E. Main St.
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Benjamin Brown is 11 years old and sings and plays piano. He sings and plays a mix of Broadway show tunes, piano rags, classical piano, folk songs, and contemporary hits.

Eli Byrns
Piano Park – 215 E. Main St.

Eli Byrns is a 7th grade student at Boyd-Buchanan School. Now 13 years old, he has been playing piano since he was 10 years old. Eli would love to be a professional some day. His favorite type of music is jazz, but he also loves to play Beethoven and Mozart pieces.
