After a very successful campaign in downtown Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, Shaky Knees Music Festival returns to the same historic spot for their fifth installment of this incredible festival this May 12-14, 2017. Personally, Shaky Knees is one of my favorite festivals in the southeastern region. So if you have never attended this festival, this year looks like the year to come and party in Hotlanta! Previous year’s lineups have bolstered such names as; My Morning Jacket, Alabama Shakes, The Avett Brothers, At The Drive In, The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel, Mastodon, Deftones, and many more top billed artists/bands. This year’s lineup boasts an amazing big 3 with Phoenix, LCD Soundsystem, and The xx closing out each night of the festival respectively. And what an amazing undercard this year’s event has as well with the likes of Cage The Elephant, Pixies, The Shins, Nick Murphy, Portugal. The Man, Moon Taxi, Sylvan Esso, Dr. Dog, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, Shovels and Rope, Warpaint, Car Seat Headrest, Cloud Nothings, and The Revivalists to name a select few.
- Nick Murphy – I first stumbled across Nick Murphy f.k.a. Chet Faker back in 2013 in Austin, TX, during day three of the Fun Fun Fun Fest, thanks to the crew that took me in that weekend. This Aussie singer and songwriter has a very unique electronica/soul/trip hop/downtempo style that has evolved over the years. Especially with the addition of a very talented full band to his live sets, Nick Murphy is definitely on my ‘must see’ list for this year’s Shaky Knees!
- Roddy Walston & The Business – So if you know anything about me at all, you would already know that J. Roddy Walston & The Business (JRWATB) is one of my favorite bands. Their intricate blend of southern rock/roots rock/hard rock/soul always makes up for a great time at their show. JRWATB did have the honor of kicking off last year’s Shaky Knees Music Festival at the Official Kickoff Party at Terminal West. So it is only fitting to invite them back to this year’s event so they can rock the actual festival itself.
- Car Seat Headrest – Since the release of their thirteenth studio album, Teens of Denial, in early 2016, Car Seat Headrest (CSH) has been tearing up the indie rock music scene. After receiving many accolades from their peers for this LP, CSH has set their sights on dominating 2017 with the same fervor that carried them into greatness last year.
- The London Souls – Time to get acquainted with Tash Neal (guitar/vocals) and Chris St. Hilaire (drums/vocals) a.k.a. The London Souls. This New York City based rock band put on a tremendous performance last year at both the Okeechobee Music + Arts Festival and also at Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival. Check out their latest release entitled, Here Come The Girls, or explore the band’s Soundcloud page to find out more about them.
