A few years ago, local promoters Friends With Benefits (FWB) decided to take a chance and put on a concert during Master’s Week in Augusta, Georgia with some close friends of theirs: Umphrey’s McGee with special guests Moon Taxi (2014). This was the start of a tradition that we all come to recognize now as The Major Rager. Previous year’s have included: Gov’t Mule with Lettuce, The Revivalists, and The Omega Moos (2015) & Umphrey’s McGee with The Revivalists, Earphunk, and Tauking McGee (2016). So you might be wondering to yourself, ‘Who made this year’s lineup for the Rager?’ Well I am glad you asked!
This year FWB Productions is proud to announce for the 4th Annual The Major Rager: The Flaming Lips, People of the Sun a.k.a. Moon Taxi (performing a Rage Against the Machine cover set), Eric Krasno Band, and Stop Light Observations. This year’s event will take place on April 6th, 2017 at the lovely Augusta Common in beautiful, downtown Augusta, Georgia. General admission tickets and V.I.P. tickets are on sale this Friday at 10am! Do not miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to see these four amazing bands in a very, intimate setting at The Augusta Common.
And we haven’t even covered the Official After Party at Sky City (downtown Augusta) that is featuring Augusta’s very own Funk You and Schema later on that night. Follow Sky City on Facebook to stay up to date on this event. Funk You will stop by and play their hometown of Augusta during a 28 day tour with such names as The Werks, Perpetual Groove, BIG Something, Psylo Joe. According to the band’s Facebook page, Funk You will also have ‘some very special guests’ showing up to play at the After Party. You’ve been warned!
Charleston’s very own Stop Light Observations (SLO) is set to kick off this year’s The Major Rager by bringing their brand of Southern/retro/garage rock ‘n’ roll to the stage at the Augusta Common. Want to hear some of SLO because you are not familiar with them? Check out their Soundcloud page and listen to their discography. I suggest checking out SLO’s LPs, Dinosaur Bones and Until the Sun Rises.
If you have heard of the band Soulive or Lettuce (both of which he co-founded) then you might be familiar with the genius that is known as Eric Krasno. Krasno has shared the stage with the likes of Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, John Scofield, Joshua Redman, and The Roots just to name a select few. Not to mention that he his also a Grammy Award winner for his impeccable jazz/funk/jam/soul guitar work. Get familiar with his work before hand by checking out his two LPs; Reminisce (2010) and Blood From A Stone (2016).
Not only has Moon Taxi been asked to play this year’s Okeechobee Music + Arts Festival and the Gasparilla Music Festival, but they will also play at this year’s The Major Rager. Notable mention that their set at The Major Rager will feature a cover set of songs from Rage Against the Machine (RATM). Yes, you read that correctly. Moon Taxi has actually done this feat before during the 2014 Hangout Music Festival under the alias “People of the Sun” at the tiny Red Bull Sound Select Stage. They integrated such RATM classics, “Down Rodeo”, “Bombtrack”, “Bulls on Parade”, “Killing in the Name”, and “Wake Up”. They would play the 2014 Hangout Music Festival twice essentially, covering a timeslot for a sick Chance the Rapper as themselves: Moon Taxi.
The legendary psychedelic/alternative/experimental rock band, The Flaming Lips (TFL) has been turning heads and melting minds for over thirty years. Fresh off the release of their fourteenth studio LP and twentieth overall release, Oczy Mlody, TFL have been added as the headliner for this year’s The Major Rager! Do not miss this journey through textured, sonic landscapes from one of the most influential rock bands of our lifetime at The Major Rager. So join us as we welcome Wayne Coyne and his friends this year as they perform a selection of their hits spanning over three decades.
