My Morning Jacket (MMJ) formed as a band back in 1998, in Louisville, Kentucky. Since then they have released seven studio albums, not including solo albums by members of the band. The lineup consists of Jim James (vocals/guitars), Carl Broemel (guitar/ pedal steel/saxophone/backing vocals), Tom Blakenship (bass), Patrick Hallahan (drums/percussion), and Bo Koster (keyboards/percussion/bacing vocals). MMJ is currently on their Summer 2017 Tour with Gary Clark, Jr. or The Districts as opening support for the remaining dates left (opener depends on the date). We were lucky to catch this tour as they made a stop to play at the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheater with Gary Clark, Jr. as the opener.
Gary Clark, Jr. is an Austin, Texas guitarist who has been dubbed ‘The Chosen One’ since his debut LP, 110 (2004). Clark began playing guitar at age twelve and continued to work hard, looking for his big break in the music industry. His style is a mixture of blues, rock, soul, and even a little hip-hop. In my opinion, the nickname ‘The Chosen One’ is aptly applied to Clark because he is truly remarkable when he plays guitar.
