It Still Moves 20th Anniversary Show Live at the Fox Theatre!

My Morning Jacket is an indie rock/southern rock/Americana/jam/alternative country/art rock band from Louisville, Kentucky that formed as a band back in 1998. The band consists of Jim James (lead vocals/guitars), Tom Blankenship (bass), Bo Koster (keyboards/percussion/backing vocals), Patrick Hallahan (drums/percussion), and Carl Broemel (guitars/pedal steel/saxophone/backing vocals). My Morning Jacket has released nine (9) LPs, twelve (12) EPs, twenty-two (22) singles, eleven (11) live albums, five (5) music videos, three (3) compilation albums, and one (1) video album over their remarkable career. My Morning Jacket is signed to ATO Records and their latest self-titled album, My Morning Jacket, was released on October 22, 2021. My Morning Jacket also plans to release a festive anthology on RSD Black Friday (November 24th) entitled Happy Holiday! on ATO Records. The album will feature two (2) brand-new songs and seven (7) holiday fan favorites from a digital release recorded in 2011. So go out and support your local record stores this upcoming RSD Black Friday!

When My Morning Jacket announced on May 11th that their Fall Tour 2023 would begin on October 17th in Toronto, ON, and conclude on November 11th with a three-night stand in Chicago, IL, I was over the moon excited that the Fox Theatre in Atlanta made the tour for two nights. For the first night (November 3rd), My Morning Jacket would play their third album, It Still Moves, from start to finish to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its release. I was fortunate enough to be there to witness musical history with a sold-out crowd filled with loyal My Morning Jacket fans at the Fox Theatre.

Opening support for My Morning Jacket for the remainder of the Fall Tour 2023 would be singer-songwriter Devon Gilfillian. Devon Gilfillian is a singer-songwriter (soul/gospel blues) originally from Morton, Pennsylvania who started playing music at age 14. In 2013, Devon moved to Nashville, Tennessee where they started the ball rolling with their music career. After releasing three (3) LPs, one (1) EP, and several singles over a decade in Nashville, Devon is the perfect opener for My Morning Jacket for their Fall Tour 2023: It Still Moves 20th Anniversary Tour (Night 1) at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

Devon’s voice carried beautifully across the sold-out crowd in the Fox Theatre as they watched in amazement during this remarkable and exceptional performance. I rather enjoyed Devon’s set as a breath of fresh air with a groovy, soulful attitude. “Even Though It Hurts”, “Follow The Leader”, and “Love You Anyway” were three tracks that stood out to me as Devon Gilfillian had the crowd under a magical spell during this set. Many thanks to My Morning Jacket for bringing Devon Gilfillian on this tour.

My Morning Jacket came on stage to the roar of the crowd excited for the start of the first track, “Mahgeetah”, which has always been a favorite live song of mine. But before starting the evening, Jim James and the rest of the band took time to show some love to the crowd. One of the reasons I love this band is their gratitude for the fans every night on any tour. As My Morning Jacket played each song off the LP, It Still Moves, it made me appreciate each song more than before knowing that this epic record came out 20 years prior and it still holds true today. It was also fun listening to My Morning Jacket play “Steam Engine” in Atlanta because most people in the area know that the festival Shaky Knees was named after this song because of this lyric, “…Your skin looks good in moonlight/And goddamn those shaky knees…”. The crowd was so ready for this song that they could sing along with one of their favorite lyrics.

After the initial set, we were all anxious to hear what the band had in store for their encore. And let me tell you that they were not disappointed when they came back to perform their encore performance. My Morning Jacket ended this unforgettable evening with, “Phone Went West”, but it was exceptionally nice to hear that they performed the 2004 version of the song from their fabled Bonnaroo performance.
