Failure / Swervedriver: Live at The Masquerade (2019)
March turned out to be a really awesome month for music for this Concerthopper. Started the month off shooting All Them Witches / Plague Vendor (all photos and videos shot exclusively for Imprint Entertainment), Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats / Graveyard / Twin Temple, and Weedeater / ASG / Behitthemeans / Toke. Now we come the final show of the month featuring Failure and Sweredriver. What a way to end March but on a high note. When this tour was announced, I was actually surprised at the pairing but then it kind of made sense after I thought about it. Both bands have had success in producing very creative music over the last few decades with each band’s new release.
Failure is an alternative metal / art rock / space rock band from Los Angeles (1990-1997, 2014-present) that consists of Ken Andrews (vocals/bass), Greg Edwards (guitar/backing vocals), and Kellii Scott (drums). Failure has released five (5) LPs with the latest entitled, In the Future Your Body Will Be the Furthest Thing from Your Mind (2018). They also have one (1) live album, Failure Planet Live (2017), five (5) EPs, and two (2) compilations: Essentials & Golden. I can still remember the day my friend let me hear Fantastic Planet by Failure. It was a beautiful, intimate record that really grabbed my attention from the start. I still think that this is one of the most underrated albums from the 1990s. If you have not listened to Failure before, follow this link to their Official Soundcloud page and hear them for yourself.

Swervedriver are an English shoegaze / alt-rock band that formed back in 1989 (1989-1998, 2008- present), with founding members Adam Franklin (vocals/rhythm and lead guitars) and Jimmy Hartridge (lead guitar). Add Mikey Jones (drums/percussion) and Mick Quinn (bass), formerly of Supergrass, and you have the current touring lineup for Swervedriver. The band has released six (6) LPs with the latest entitled, Future Ruins (2019), which is their second album since the band reunited back in 2008. This was my first time seeing Swervedriver but it was not my first time listening to them. To be able to finally see them live was truly an unforgettable moment and I was thrilled when they played “Never Lose That Feeling”. One of my favorite tracks by the band.
