Polyphia Stops at The Masquerade to Melt the Faces of a Sold-Out Crowd!
The Masquerade has always been a venue that has hosted multiple, innovative musical talents; it’s a huge component of what has helped to cement The Masquerade in Georgia music history. This continued to be the case as two very progressive and technically proficient acts made their way to the venue. Polyphia and Unprocessed brought their unique meshing of numerous musical genres to a sold-out Heaven and we were on hand.
Unprocessed were first up on the lineup. The band was playing its first tour in the US as they originally hail from Germany. The group has been making waves with their music, finding themselves mentioned by several music outlets like Guitar World and Hollywood Life. Guitarist and vocalist Manuel Gardner Fernandes has discussed the importance of Pride month and his selection of songs celebrating Pride month that he believes should be on everyone’s Pride playlist. On stage, the band was full of energy, there were plenty of jumps and kicks as the band tore through an impressively, complex set of songs.
The sold-out crowd reached a fever pitch as it was time for the headliner of the evening, Polyphia to take the stage. For those unfamiliar with the band, they are primarily an instrumental four piece. They masterfully blend genres such as technical metal, hip hop, progressive metalcore, and pop. This leads to an insanely, technical musical blend that focuses on melodic content and flow from complexity to complexity. Seeing them in person is an insane experience as you get to bear witness to all of the insane riffs you hear on the album in person and in real time. There was plenty of crowd surfing and, in the windows of time where there were samples or other audio, such as in the song “Goose” where the crowd would repeat back the words. In the absence of words to chant back though, the crowd interjected their own content such as chants of ATL HOE! This drew smiles from the stage.
