Fit For a King Brings The Hell We Create Tour to Buffalo, N.Y.
Forget the Winter Warning Advisory. The Hell We Create Tour wrecked havoc last Friday in Buffalo, NY. Metal Heads from all over didn’t let a little snow stop them from attending a sold out show featuring four insanely, talented metal bands. Fit For a King, Northlane, Alpha Wolf and Kingdom of Giants all had fans lining up outside prior to doors opening. The Town Ballroom swelled with fans who quickly stormed the three level venue looking for the best spot stand.
Kingdom of Giants opened the show to an already full venue. Usually the first couple bands leave spaces in the pit but in this case good lucking trying to find a spot to stand. A metal core band from Northern California, they released their debut album Abominable in January 2011. It’s not hard to see why the underground metal scene quickly swallowed them up. Their lead singer Dana Willax quickly delivered some heat with some shivering vocals. Crying out to fans to mosh, circle pit and the ever so lovely wall of death. The intensity of their let really set the mood for the rest of the night. It was about to get wild.
Australian metal core band Alpha Wolf stepped up next wasting no time igniting the crowd. Crowd surfers started making their way to the front of the stage eagerly trying to reach lead singer Lochie. The mosh pit was sucking in anyone that dare come close enough. Like moths to a flame the bands destructive chords and massive hits kept the crowd moving. The album A Quiet Place to Die released in 2020, is definitely one of my favorites but you cannot go wrong with any of their material.
Northlane slid right into their set with a teasingly calm start which quickly exploded into complete chaos. I love when bands expand their creativity and push boundaries. Mixing electro-metal with metal core sounds is exactly what Northlane did and let me tell you the sound is beautiful. The sharp screams from Marcus Bridge and whirlwind of technical riffs and synth from Jon Deiley had fans aching for more. The movement on stage was magnetic and no-one was standing still at this point.
The crowd was absolutely feral awaiting Fit For a King (FFAK). As soon as the lights went out the crowd exploded with excitement. Lead singer Ryan Kirby emerged from side-stage and wasted no time soaking in all the energy Buffalo had to offer. Erupting right into their first song “The Hell We Create” had fans fast and furious. So much in fact, security increased near the front of the stage. The heaviness of breakdown hits and insane mid-air kick flips made for a sinister sound that filled the air. At one point, and in true Buffalo fashion, the “Let’s go, Buffalo” chant made its way into the air. FFAK stopped to let the crowd finish their chant with smiles on their faces before face slapping into their next song. The energy of their set never dulled once. “Reaper”, “Bitter end” and “Deathgrip” made their appearance on the setlist. The growls of Kirby along with thick aggression of the tempo was just the icing on top. Finishing strong with “God of Fire”, the crowd sang along to every word making the air deafening.
