Summer Tour (2019): Neurosis / Bell Witch / Deaf Kids
You know when a tour kicks off in Atlanta that you should never ever miss that show especially if it’s a band that you really dig. With that being said, Neurosis kicked off their Summer Tour (with Bell Witch and Deaf Kids- who are on their first ever North American tour). This brief tour will take these bands up the east coast with a few Midwest/Canadian dates while ending on August 17th in Chicago, Illinois at Thalia Hall. Little side note, the local Atlanta band Mastodon has frequently mentioned how much Neurosis influenced them over the years. And they have brought Neurosis on tour with them many times over the last decade in both domestic and tours abroad.
Neurosis is a genre defining, avant-garde metal band that hails from Oakland, California that formed back in 1985 by Scott Kelly (guitar/lead vocals), Dave Edwardson (bass/backing vocals), and Jason Roeder (drums). Some may recognize the name Jason Roeder from his other band the mighty Sleep since they have graced my column a few times! Add Noah Landis (keyboards/effects/synthesizers/samples/backing vocals) and Steve Von Till (guitar/vocals) so you can round out the remaining current lineup for Neurosis. Neurosis started off as a hardcore punk band evolved into a wonderful, experimental blend of doom metal, industrial, sludge metal, post-metal, and add some hardcore punk elements as well in the mix.

Bell Witch has made my column in the past when they toured with Yob. You can check out that article from 2018 over at Concerthopper’s archival section. This doom metal duo hails from Seattle, Washington and consists of Dylan Desmond (bass/vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums/vocals). Follow this link to their Official Bandcamp page and listen for yourself! Bell Witch has released three (3) LPs with Mirror Reaper (2017) being their latest off of Profound Lore Records. This duo is always a treat to see live when they are in town! Especially since I was seeing them play a larger venue than the last time in town.
The band Deaf Kids has never toured North America and we were all there to welcome them with arms wide open. What a treat for everyone who made it early to this fantastic tour to see Deaf Kids kicking it all off! Deaf Kids is a self-proclaimed “punk/hypnobeat/noise/psychedelic” band from the municipality of Volta Redonda which is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The band has been together since 2011, has seven (7) releases, and has toured all over Brazil and Europe. I really did not know what to expect to be honest. But after a few moments into their first song you could see the band feel at ease and have some fun when playing. During their set, the music just flowed naturally and the crowd stayed enchanted with the music of Deaf Kids. Check out their discography by heading over to their Official Bandcamp page today!
