BABYMETAL World Tour 2018

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to throw the Japanese Kawaii culture into a death metal band? Then you should definitely check out BABYMETAL. BABYMETAL is a Japanese Kawaii Metal Band that meshes together heavy metal and Japanese Idol culture for a wicked J-Pop experience. Japanese pop culture relies heavily on idol bands and their ability to hit mass markets with their cute, often overly happy demeanors. BABYMETAL takes this main stream genre and puts a dark, heavy metal spin on it with bone crushing drum break downs and ear-drum splitting guitar riffs. There’s something infinitely catchy about their bright, pop voices juxtaposed against the death metal backing band.

The band’s vocal line up consist of Suzuka Nakamoto, Yui Mizuno, and Moa Kikuchi and they are backed by the Kami Band. The band formed in 2010 and performed as a subgroup of the female idol band Sakura Gakuin. It only took a few short years for their popularity to gain them a spot as the youngest group to ever perform at Loud Park, an annual heavy metal festival in Chiba City, Japan. Their quick rise to fame brought them to the U.S. by 2014.

BABYMETAL conducted a full world tour during the summer of 2018, spanning from Kansas City, Missouri to Nuremberg, Germany and it hit some of the best Rock and Metal festivals to date. In the states, BABYMETAL made an appearance at Rock On the Range in Columbus, Ohio and over the pond they have been seen at Rock am Ring as well as Rock im Park.

Concert Hopper had the pleasure of catching their stop in Atlanta, Georgia at the Tabernacle and it was absolute insanity from start to finish. The show sold-out and the excitement from the crowd was infectious. The bright, pop voices of Nakamoto, Mizuno and Kikuchi carried throughout the Tabernacle as they danced in unison. When it came time for their infamous single “Megitsune”, the crowd began singing and dancing a perfect mirror image to the trio. The trio dance in unison to hold true to the Japanese idol culture and it’s just another way they perfectly mesh these two genres together. BABYMETAL’s current tour will end in early June of 2018, but we have high hopes this highly energetic metal-pop band will make an appearance in the USA again very soon.
