The Return of YOB: Live at The Earl
Yob has been on my ‘Do Not Miss’ list for several years and will not be coming off anytime soon. Between Catharsis, The Unreal Never Lived, The Great Cessation, and Clearing the Path to Ascend… it is hard to say what my favorite album by Yob is. Depends on my mood I suppose. Yob is a doom metal band that hails from Eugene, Oregon that consists of: Mike Scheidt (guitar/vocals), Aaron Rieseberg (bass), and Travis Foster (drums). Yob is currently on a United States tour until September 15th in support of their latest LP, Our Raw Heart, with Bell Witch and Athens, Ga. natives Lazer/Wulf. Mike was diagnosed with acute diverticulitis in November 2016 and is very lucky to be alive. Check out Mike’s Noisey essay detailing his near death experience not long ago.
Bell Witch is a doom metal duo from Seattle, WA that consists of Dylan Desmond (bass/vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums/vocals). Bell Witch suffered a great tragedy when co-founding member Adrian Guerra (drums) died unexpectedly in 2016. Jesse Shreibman was then added to play drums and the band has been crushing souls ever since. Check out their new release, Mirror Reaper, which has garnered some critical acclaim across the industry. Lazer/Wulf is a mostly instrumental band (progressive metal/math rock/jazz fusion) that has been catching a lot of attention over the last few years with their energetic performances mixed with their penchant for playing some of the most bad ass music on this planet. The band consists of: Bryan Aiken (guitar), Sean Peiffer (bass), and Brad Rice (drums). I have been very lucky to see this trio play a lot over the past few years and I am always eager to see them again in the near future.
