Fly Free Fest 2013

From the moment I learned about Fly Free Fest via Facebook invite I knew it was something special. A weekend full of live music & possible unicorn sightings, I'm there! I had a giddy summer crush on FFF from there on out, but I fell deeply in love with the festival the moment Moon Taxi started their set. In that moment I thought this festival better happen every Fall... FOREVER!

Fly Free Fest put the art back in Music and Arts Festival. Live painting, Belly dancing, Fire performances, Aerial performances, there was always something beautiful happening.

New friends, Dalton & Alexa.

It wasn't just the epic indie line-up or the unique art the made the vibe so wonderful. It was the people. The bands and artist were there to have as much as fun as the fans. Many band members could be seen in the crowd enjoying music or talking to fans. It seemed as though everyone's goal upon arriving was not only to have fun, but also to make friends. I made so many new friends while there that I know will become lasting friendships. The fact that I kept my phone off to conserve the battery since I forgot a car charger & that I rolled solo almost the whole time, may have made me seem more approachable.

New friend, Sarah.

Festy Tip: Keep your phone with you, but turn it off. Don't be afraid to go it alone. Talk to strangers. Make friends.

Listed are the bands I saw while there. I linked their Facebook pages for you (which took forever, by the way) so go "like" & listen to them. Most of them are still on tour, check them out in a city near you. I would definitely see any of the bands listed again.

I discovered new music, witnessed art, made new friends, danced non-stop, sang at the top of my lungs, enjoyed the weather, ate Reese s'mores & loved life. Fly Free Fest was one of the best experiences I've ever had I can't wait to do it all again next year.

I want to take a moment to thank Crystal & Mike. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have been able to attend Fly Free this year. They gave me ride to & from, set up & took down my campsite, shared yummy food (pumpkin spice everything, haha...) & were great company.

Also thank you Fly Free Fest for hosting such a beautiful experience and for being so accommodating. I was very nervous about trying a new festival in my wheelchair, but they addressed my concerns & I was able to enjoy the weekend worry free.

Oh, this little guy wandered into our campsite. See my tiny tent in the background.
