Pallbearer, Torche, Kayo Dot, & Bask: Live at The Masquerade

Recently, Pallbearer brought their recent tour with Torche, Kayo Dot, and Bask to The Masquerade in Atlanta in support of their most recent release, Heartless, off Nuclear Blast Records. It was great to see Mark, Brett, Joe, and Devin (of Pallbearer) again in Atlanta and perform for all their fans who made it out this night. The last time they played Atlanta, they opened for High on Fire at the original location for The Masquerade (off North Ave.) and that night was pretty epic for all those who attended. Also, many thanks to the amazing employees at The Masquerade in Atlanta, Ga. for putting on another memorable show.

First up was the Ashville, N.C. stoner/psychedelic/post rock band named Bask. Personally, I really enjoyed how they blended the sounds of Americana, a little bit of country, and then tossed in some doom/stoner/post rock to round out the sound of this very eclectic quartet. These guys are also no stranger to the road as they have been openers for such bands as High on Fire, Black Tusk, and Royal Thunder over the last few years. Boston based Kayo Dot was next up to play some post-rock/progressive metal/Avant-garde/undefinable metal that this band has become well known for over the years. Their personal sound has actually been mottled over the years and this volatility has become one of their well-known qualities as a band. After releasing eight (8) LPs over the last 14 years, Kayo Dot has definitely paid their dues in the music industry over the years. Winding down to the last two bands for the night, Miami based heavy metal band Torche returned to play The Masquerade after a nearly yearlong break. Way too long for Torche not to come play the Atlanta area if you ask me. Speaking of way too long, a new LP would be a sweet surprise from Torche since their last release was in 2015, Restarter. Little Rock’s very own Pallbearer made their triumphant return to The Masquerade to the delight of the people in attendance. Pallbearer’s take on doom metal is not like the status quo thanks to the unique vocal prowess by Brett Campbell (lead vocals/guitar).
