Thievery Corporation: Live at The Tabernacle
When one of your favorite trip-hop bands from back in the day decides to book a show at one of your favorite venues in Atlanta on Friday the 13th of course you go with a huge group. Superstitions are way over-rated especially when it is a concert with Thievery Corporation and their opening support, Zach Deputy. So the crew got their dancing shoes and we all went down the road to Atlanta for some good old-fashioned fun with Thievery Corporation and friends. I cannot say enough about how thankful I am to have the squad that went that night, we all had so much fun dancing and listening to the music play.
To start off the night, Zach Deputy took the stage and the crowd on a wild ride. Zach is a one man band that mixes some reggae, R&B, funk, hip hop, and calypso sounds into a loop while he performs solo. Wow is all I can say! First time witnessing Zach and I cannot believe that I slept on him this long. Come to find out, he has been in my town so many times at very small venues over the years. Want to hear Zach Deputy? Then check out his Official Bandcamp page to check out his discography. I highly recommend checking Zach out when he comes to your town or if you are Hulaween this year for his Thursday pre-party set.
Thievery Corporation was formed back in 1995 in our nation’s capital Washington, D.C. by Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. They met at the Eighteenth Street Lounge where Hilton was the co-owner and quickly bonded over their adoration for the sounds of ‘club music’. Together they decided to combine various genres of music that they all enjoyed in order to create something unique. What they did not know was that this plan would articulate into ten studio LPs from the duo better known as Thievery Corporation. Personally, Thievery Corporation, Portishead, and Massive Attack got me into trip hop and some other forms of electronica. Granted, I am still very picky on what I listen to in the electronica/EDM genre, I am still reminded of the early years before the days of just a DJ by himself when I listen to these three pioneers today. Obviously, this is a band that I will always support and tell all my friends to go see them when they can… that means you! Hear some of their discography either on their Official Soundcloud or Discogs page today.
