Murder by Death / J. Roddy Walston & the Business on Tour!

Murder by Death

Murder by Death

Time to start 2019 off with a bang! My first show for this year will be Murder by Death  with J. Roddy Walston & the Business as support in Athens, Georgia at the Georgia Theatre! Now if you know anything about my column over the years, I have been following J. Roddy Walston & the Business for many years now- my very first article was a review of J. Roddy Walston & the Business and Moon Taxi in Charlotte. So here we are again discussing not only J. Roddy Walston & the Business but their incredible tour mates, Murder by Death. So let’s get you acquainted with Murder by Death and J. Roddy Walston & the Business before their tour starts in Nashville on February 7th at Cannery Ballroom.

Louisville, KY based Murder by Death released their first LP, Like the Exorcist, but More Breakdancing in 2002 and hasn’t stopped making great music ever since. Fresh off the release of their eight (8) LP, The Other Shore, Murder by Death will go out on tour for fourteen (14) dates with J. Roddy Walston & the Business until February 23rd-24th with a two night stand in Louisville, Kentucky at Headliners Music Hall. I’ve always been a fan of Murder by Death’s unique indie rock/folk sound especially the latest album, The Other Shore. Whether it is the masterful performance of cellist Sarah Balliet or some incredible songwriting their sound has a gothic punk vibe that can be heard in tracks like “Alas” (this song can be heard on The Other Shore). You can listen to more of Murder by Death by following this link to their Official Soundcloud page. Stay tuned to Concerthopper in late February for my photos and review of this night with Murder by Death and J. Roddy Walston & the Business in Athens (February 21st).

Formed in 2002 by front man J. Roddy Walston in his hometown of Cleveland, Tennessee, these guys are quite possibly one of my favorite bands. From early tracks like “Don’t Break the Needle” all the way to some of their latest tracks like “Numbers”, J. Roddy Walston & the Business will hook you with their mix of the golden age of Rock ‘n’ Roll, some hints of a southern Gospel choir, and throw in some good time honky-tonk sing-a-longs. Go ahead and hear for yourself by following this link to their Official Soundcloud page. Now you will be able to find me at the Georgia Theatre (Feb. 21st) date. If you want to join me then I have added a quick link so you can grab your ticket now for the Athens, Georgia show. Check out all the tour dates for Murder by Death / J.
