Jungle Plays for a Sold-Out Crowd at The Eastern!

Jungle is an electronic neo-soul/funk band from London, England who started playing as a band in 2013. The band consists of Josh-Lloyd Watson (lead vocals/ guitar/bass/piano/keyboards/synthesizers/sampler) and Tom McFarland (lead vocals/bass/keyboards/synths/samplers) with some additional touring musicians while they are on tour. They have released three (3) LPs and several singles. Josh and Tom have been childhood friends ever since they lived next door to each when they were only nine years old. Josh and Tom have made some recognizable songs from various television shows and commercials over the years. Besides their hit song, “Busy Earnin” being featured multiple television shows and commercials, they have also had Apple use their hit single “Heavy California” for their September 2018 event. It has been a few years since Jungle last played Atlanta and they thanked the crowd for coming out in droves to witness the return of Jungle!

Opening for Jungle on this tour was Paul Cherry (born Paul Cherewick). Paul Cherry is a musician who calls Chicago, IL home and has released two (2) LPs, one (1) EP, and numerous singles throughout his career. Paul first started taking guitar lessons at age 10 and never looked back. Paul knew that music was going to be his calling even at a young age and then later decided to study composition at Columbia College in Chicago. Unfortunately, we were a little late to catch the first three songs of Paul’s set, which meant no photos for me. So, we just chilled in the crowd and observed how well the audience vibed with Paul Cherry and his amazing backing band. For some, opening for Jungle might seem like a daunting task, but not for Paul Cherry who seamlessly mesmerized the crowd that came early enough to catch Paul’s set.

I first heard of Jungle a few years back in 2018 when some friends were getting ready to see them at Bonnaroo. I thought they were groovy but did not go to Bonnaroo that year with my friends to see them. Fast forward to Hulaween 2021, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they made the lineup for that year. I am pretty sure witnessing their captivating Sunday set with my friends was just what I needed to really appreciate the dance party that is Jungle. For me, it is impossible to stand still and not dance at certain shows like Thievery Corporation or BoomBox for example. Jungle is in the same vein when they get their set rolling with some of their great songs from their discography. And this night was no different as the sold-out crowd of eager Jungle fans danced all around The Eastern from start to finish.
