The North America Tour 2022 feat. Silverstein & The Amity Affliction
The weather was less than ideal last Tuesday with torrential downpours and some pretty cold weather. Although, the inclement weather did not stop fans from attending Silverstein and The Amity Affliction’s. Fans packed Niagara Falls Rapids Theatre for The North America Tour featuring some major talent including opening acts UnityTx and Holding Absence who gave us a night to remember, leaving our ears ringing in the best way.
UnityTX took to the stage first. This Dallas based band headed by frontman Jay Webster started the night off with a bang. With an underground, grunge rock rhythm they were instantly a fan favorite. The best part about UnityTX was the blend of genres their songs seem to ooze. The perfect blend of rock rhythm and hip-hop for all genres to enjoy. The importance of music hits hard with fans as Webster shares a look into his personal struggles, sharing the importance of music to him. Creating such a unique sound has opened doors for all music lovers to be able to expand their music taste and gives you something unique and beautiful. Hardcore breakdowns, razor-sharp riffs and the bands explosive energy captured the crowd who had already formed a circle pit. You’ll want to check out their new EP MADBOY out now!
Holding Absence was up next with enough energy to tear the roof off the house. Coming from Cardiff, Wales, they wasted no time engaging with the crowd and grabbing everyone’s attention. The emotional energy of Lucas Woodland flowed flawlessly with the raw vocals and flailing guitars. Along with plenty of kicks and acrobatics around the stage this set was defiantly entertaining. Their most recently released record The Greatest Mistake of my Life packs a metalcore sound, with compact lyrics, powerful choruses and a heavier more mature sound. Fans were into it with the floor of the theatre now packed.
The Amity Affliction were a main attraction everyone was waiting for. At this point there was barely any room to move on the floor. The fans were here for these Australian metalcore favorites. Every fan I came in contact with praised the bands stage presence and were already anxious for another show. The Amity Affliction has never been shy about sharing some highly personal experiences and that’s what we love about them. Fans being able to relate and find some peace with their music has attributed greatly to their growing fan base. Struggles with depression, anxiety, death and substance abuse are just some of the struggles front man Joe Birch has lyrically shared. Metallic riffs, vocal attacks and some engaging lyrics had fans feral down in the pit. The venue was completely lined up on both sides of the room and the bar areas and merch tables were empty with everyone watching. “ Coffin” and “All My Friends are Dead” had fans chanting back to the band . The band even threw off a couple tracks off their 2020 album Everyone Loves You.. Once You Leave Them.
Our Canadian favorites Silverstein finished up the night with an incredible show. It’s no surprise everyone still loves these guys. They’ve been the OG’s of screamo sounds since 2000. If you’ve ever seen a Silverstein show you know that front man Shane Told wastes no time going right for the throat. These hardcore heavy hitters started out the night with “ Infinite”, “It’s Over” and “Smile in Your Sleep”. With hypnotizing lyrics, infections instruments and the vocal talent of Told, this band stands unmatched. Fans were stoked as the band played the perfect blend of songs off various albums. All the way back to When Broken Is Easily Fixed to their newest, this band will for sure play all your favorites. Most of the songs bulking from their newest album Misery Made Me. If you haven’t heard “The Alter/Mary” off that album I highly suggest you listen. It’s even better live. Most songs on the album expose frustration and anxiety with our world today. Even though it hasn’t been out very long fans clung to every word vibrating the venue. The highlight of the night was the wheel of songs. I’m talking a Price is Right type wheel, fan favorite songs. It’s no surprise that the more albums a band puts out the harder it gets to make a setlist. Especially when all your albums get better and better. With a fan spinning the wheel, Silverstein played whatever song the wheel decided. Forever growing their roots their hardcore fan base shows that this band doesn’t disappoint. They creatively peek at every show they play and always leave fans wanting more. With the front man of UnityTX coming out to sing “Die Alone” and the genius element that is Silverstein, this show was unforgettable.
