Empath, Touché Amoré, & La Dispute Rock the Masquerade
The post-hardcore, punk rock power trifecta that is Empath, Touché Amoré, and La Dispute is currently making its rounds through the United States. La Dispute is headlining the tour in support of their latest work Panorama, which is now available on all major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp. La Dispute headlining the tour with their iconic post-hardcore sound meant they needed to bring support from artists with experimental, hardcore vibes to really round out the tour as a punk rock extravaganza.
Empath is an experimental punk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that is breaking through norms in punk rock music by meshing noise-punk, melodies, and bird sounds together. Yes, bird sounds…actual recordings of birds that make you feel like you’re out on a secluded trail in the wilderness bird watching. The band consists of Catherine Elicson (guitar/vocals), Emily Shanahan (synthesizer), Randall Coon (synthesizer) and Garrett Koloski (drums). Though the band brings in two synthesizers in place of a bassist, you would honestly never know the difference when hearing them play. Their melodies are soft, catchy and feature some bird noises here and there…when all of the sudden, their noise-punk vibes catch you out of nowhere and come blazing through like a bullet train. Seeing that the band was named 2018’s Trippiest Punk Band by Rolling Stone Magazine, you should definitely be on the lookout for this band to be rising through the ranks of the punk scene fairly quickly.
Touché Amoré is a post-hardcore band from California that got their start back in 2007. The band is made up of Jeremy Bolm (vocals), Clayton Stevens (guitar), Nick Steinhardt (guitar), Tyler Kirby (bass), and Elliot Babin (drums). The band made their debut 7” on No Sleep Records in September of 2008. Shortly after, they released their widely acclaimed album …To the Beat of a Dead Horse in 2009. Since then, Touché Amoré has released three other studio albums - 2 on Deathwish Records and 1 with Epitaph. Their latest release Dead Horse X is a re-recording of their debut album in celebration of its tenth anniversary and has been released through Epitaph Records. As they are currently celebrating the tenth anniversary of their very first album, fans are on the edge of their seats wondering what could come next for the band and when they will be following up with brand new material.
La Dispute is a post-hardcore band straight out of Grand Rapids, Michigan that boasts a very iconic sound in the punk scene. The band started in 2004 and released their debut EP Vancouver on Friction Records in 2006. Exactly two years later, the band released their debut album Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair. The bands iconic sound comes from a mixture of spoken word, poetry, and jazz that is fused into their post-hardcore vibe. The band consists of Jordan Dreyer (vocals), Brad Vander Lugt (drums), Chad Morgan-Sterenberg (guitar), Corey Stroffolino (guitar), and Adam Vass (bass). In the early years, Dreyer noted he was never a singer and this is where their iconic sound began to take hold through his writings that came through as spoken word poetry or short fiction stories. To this day, their sound is marked by deeply emotional spoken word passages that cascade into intense, screamo, post-hardcore breakdowns. Throughout their career they have notably meshed together various genres and styles of art to craft their very own sound. Their latest work, Panorama, is not only their first album with Epitaph Records but it is an emotional firestorm from start to finish. This album is the successor to Wildlife as Dreyer dives deep into his talents as a author of fictional short stories. To check out La Dispute and their latest album, head over to their Spotify.
